Last weekend’s intense activity on the Olympic Park, where we staged simultaneous events in six different sports [including the Volleyball UK School Games], marked the successful completion of LOCOG’s programme of 42 test events – one of the most extensive programmes of live event testing an OCOG has ever undertaken.

In just under twelve months, we’ve hosted over 8,000 elite athletes across 183 days of competition, spanning all Olympic sports and disciplines and 6 Paralympic sports; we’ve showcased 28 of our iconic new, existing and temporary venues in London and across the UK; we’ve had new world records in a number of sports, including 3 during the Track Cycling World Cup Classic; we’ve deployed a workforce of more than 25,000, including many of you, our Games Makers; we’ve welcomed over 350,000 spectators; and we’ve created a new brand, London Prepares, and in doing so flooded the market with 24,000 t shirts and over 350,000 spectator programmes, whilst also dressing our venues superbly.

In delivering our test event programme, we’ve tested many aspects of our Games time operations across a huge range of Functional Areas. Our activity generated exceptional feedback from athletes, spectators and the media and will undoubtedly enhance our Games this summer.

I wanted to thank you all for the work you’ve done to make the successful delivery of test events possible. Despite, at times, challenging conditions you have performed superbly and I hope that you have enjoyed the opportunity to gain experience of the activities you be involved in at Games time.

You may have seen coverage of the lighting of the Olympic flame in Greece yesterday. The Greek leg of the relay has now begun, with the torch set to arrive on our shores next week. With just 77 days remaining until the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games, there is plenty to be excited about.

Thank you to you all for your efforts and I look forward to meeting many of you in just a few months’ time.

Kind regards

Paul

Chief Executive Officer
LOCOG

Bristol 1 Ladies from Div 2 South, likewise Wessex Men gained promotion from Div2 South.

In this weekends playoffs, there was celebration for Team South Wales. The team, who only formed in 2009, were victorious in both their matches beating both Leeds and Herts VC and were promoted in to Women’s Division One at the expense of Leeds. Leeds also lost to Herts VC in the final match of the day. It’s been a great season for the Cardiff club who play in the Women’s Shield at The National Cup Finals this coming weekend.

I am pleased to announce that entry for the 2012 Bristol VC Wick Tournament is now open!

The tournament is an annual outdoor (grass) tournament organised by the Bristol Volleyball Club, now in its 7th year. It is the pinnacle of our club’s season and an event not to be missed.

This years tournament will be on the weekend of 26th & 27th May, at Wick Sports Ground, just outside of Bristol.

The tournament is mixed 6-a-side played to Bristol & District league rules. It is an open tournament, so teams from accross the country can enter, not just teams from BVC.

We pride ourselves on the party – this year we’ll have two live bands and DJ Dimi on decks, all in the usual tournament marquee.

There will also be a DIY BBQ in the evening for all those taking up the inclusive food option.

The tournament bar will be open all weekend serving a selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. Prices are very reasonable and we ask you to try to use the bar where possible rather than bring your own as all proceeds go to the club, which we’ll reinvest into equipment and training provision next season.

There is free onsite camping and parking.

Get the date in your diary and start putting your team together!

Please email me for more information or look on the club website: www.bristolvc.org.uk/wick
