Once the girls had returned to the sports hall, the conference moved to an informal round the table affair. SW Annual Awards 2015

The South West Volleyball Association appreciates the importance of volunteers in our sport and the huge contribution they make. The Annual Awards go a little way to recognise their contribution and we hope that clubs and members will nominate those who they believe have put in their time and energy to assure the future development of volleyball.

All nominees for volunteer awards must be part of an affiliated club or association. Nominees for the coach or referee awards must be currently registered Volleyball England Coaches or Referees (or have recently retired from long standing registration / membership). Nominators must follow guidelines detailed on the form as well as providing any additional relevant information that may apply.

SW Junior Volleyball Championships and Final Grand Prix

Another reminder that the final Junior Volleyball Grand Prix of the season, which also incorporates the South West Junior Championships, takes place on Saturday 14th March at Wellsprings Leisure Centre, Cheddon Road, Taunton, TA2 7QP. It starts at 1 pm. and expected to finish around 5 p.m. You can enter using the linkhttps://www.swva.org.uk/junior-grand-prix-entry-form and the cost of entering is £15 per team. Teams are generally made up with three players, but two can play together or you can have a team of four where players rotate in. It is also allowed to include one younger boy in a girls team or one girl up to one year older in a boys team. The weight of balls should be appropriate to the age group playing and the team with the youngest player will always select the weight of the lightweight balls if there is a dispute.

NCAA Women’s – Instant Replay Challenge Rule

We have seen the introduction of the instant replay challenge system in various sports in recent years, with respect to volleyball, the NCAA is looking to try it.

From: http://www.ncaa.com/news/volleyball-women/article/2015-02-03/womens-volleyball-rules-committee-modifies-instant-replay

The NCAA Women’s Volleyball Rules Committee on Thursday modified a recommendation for an experimental instant replay challenge rule that can be implemented in the 2015 season.

The committee, which met via conference call, changed the proposal to allow coaches three instant replay challenges per match. The challenge must be made before the referee extends his or her arm to start the next point. The previous recommendation would have allowed coaches two instant replay challenges per set.

Before a rules proposal becomes official, it must be approved by the NCAA Playing Rules Oversight Panel, which is scheduled to discuss women’s volleyball recommendations via conference call on Feb. 18.

How coaches would formally make the request to challenge a call will be decided at a later date, although some committee members believe some sort of visual aid should be used.

The players would have to remain on the court while the instant replay review takes place.

Coaches could request instant replay challenges only to review:

• If a ball landed in or out.
• If the ball made contact with a player.
• If a net violation, as defined in the rule book, occurred.
• Foot faults on a serve.

The referee will decide whether the replay evidence confirms or overturns the original call. If the replay is inconclusive, the original call will stand.

If approved, the instant replay rule can be used only in conference games at schools that are able to provide the necessary equipment and personnel. The Big 12 and Pac-12 conferences have requested to use the rule next season.

Red Bull and it’s various marketing outlets are often seen on UK beaches, now they have added Beach Volleyball to their list of events. Time to look up your regional supplier and to introduce your event.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Graça F°’s commitment to sport innovation as he looks to secure volleyball’s position as the most engaging sport entertainment in the world.

This ground breaking partnership will ensure that beach volleyball will set the benchmark as one of the world’s most dynamic forms of sport entertainment, with Red Bull bringing its full marketing, event management and media competence to the realisation of three Major Series events and the Swatch Beach Volleyball Season Final as part of the FIVB World Tour.
