Devon Schools Beach Volleyball Championships 2012

The Devon Schools Beach Volleyball Championships 2012

The 3rd Devon Schools Beach Volleyball Championships were held at Croyde Beach on Tuesday 26th June. Parkdean Holidays hosted the event at their flag ship beach on the Academy of Beach Sports venue.

Volleyball England Community Development Coach, Denise Austin, organised the event on a typical wet summer’s day in North Devon.

The event first started out to cater for the increasing popularity of beach volleyball in Devon and to give young people more opportunities to compete in the sport. This year saw yet another increase in the number of courts and a total of 77 teams competing across three age groups in both male and female events.

The North Devon Schools of Braunton, Park, Pilton and Torrington were dominant in all the age groups as many of the players are regular members of the local club the Academy of Beach Sports but there is a growing interest from the indoor volleyball power houses of Kings School and Egg Buckland.

Denise Austin said “We were extremely pleased with the overall turn out. To see so many children experience beach volleyball competition at such a young impressionable age bares well for the future.”
