Young Coaches Accademy

A fantastic opportunity has come up for young leaders – the Volleyball England Coaching Academy.  Please could you advertise this within your region.

Young people attend two free off charge residential training weekends (funded by the Youth Sport Trust) where they will have the opportunity to develop their coaching skills with other young people from within volleyball and other sports.  The first weekend is a generic ‘how to coach’ multi-sport academy hosted by the Youth Sport Trust from 4th to 6th January 2013 in Loughborough, with a follow up academy focusing on ‘what to coach’ delivered by Volleyball England at the National Volleyball Centre in Kettering from 1st  to 3rd February 2013.  Applicants would need to attend both dates.

The only pre-requisites are that the young person must have completed the Young Leaders Award and be aged between 14 and 19.  Of course they should also have an interest in developing their coaching skills.

The young person would also need to have a ‘mentor’ in place leading up to and for after the academies.  We expect the Young Coach and the Mentor to establish their own parameters, and meet probably once a month to discuss progression. This could simply be a short conversation about their progress, and helping to make achievable goals, and the steps to achieving them.

To apply, young people need to complete the Young Coach application and their Mentor needs to complete Mentor Nomination Form.

Unfortunately there is a tight turn-around as the closing date for applications is Thursday 11th October.

If you have any questions about the Coaching Academy please contact me, otherwise I look forward to receiving applications from your region.

Best wishes, Ilona Berry
