Bristol Spikers Junior Volleyball Club & Bedminster Volleyball Club – Coach & Safeguarding

Coaches, Assistant Coaches, and Safeguarding officers wanted! – Bristol, Bath & North Somerset

About Us

Bemi VC is Bristol’s oldest volleyball club being formed in 1968. We have run teams every year since. We have a fluctuating membership of between 60 & 90 members and have multiple squads of experienced players from former pro’s right down to complete beginners. We run teams in multiple competitions suited to the ability of the membership. Teams are Women Men U18’s & Mixed. We anticipate from September we will run 20 hours of coached sessions per week Sunday to Thursday Plus matches which we anticipate being over 120 for the 2021/2022 season across the club.

Spikers VC was set up in 2015 as a Junior only club but with a clear route of progression from junior into adult volleyball. Sessions are both age and ability based with sessions at U10, U13’s U16’s & “if ready” moving to Bemi VC at U18’s. We run junior teams in every local, regional & national junior competition available in England. We currently have 75 Juniors Year 4 to year 11 on the books with a waiting list. Each week we run 11 hours of coached training sessions. Most of our juniors come as complete beginners which we develop and support. Our first-generation already making national squads.

Both clubs work collaboratively to make our sports halls a fun safe place while sharing resources, equipment, coaches, safeguarding, expertise & facilities. Although very different organisations, with different philosophies, both hugely benefit from developing people together in our multiple location sites across Central, South & East Bristol.

Coaches Wanted

We are looking for both experienced and inexperienced coaches. We have a huge support network in place to support anyone who takes on the role, which can be as much or as little as you want. You will not be alone. As a coach, you will have a squad manager, an assistant coach, safeguarding support, and a vast range of coaching equipment. If you want help, we can provide session plans and an experienced coach to mentor and support you.

As mandatory we expect you to go through a data barring service (DBS) check. If you are not a British national, we reserve the right to carry out similar checks in your home nation. We will ensure, (and support financially) that you have the right first aid certification, mental health training, safeguarding training & coaching qualification(s). As part of your continuous personal development (CPD). We will expect you to always be pushing towards the next level of qualification. You may have none of these qualifications, but we will help you gain everything you need.

What sort of person are we looking for? Are you a current player but never coached? Are you a retired player who misses volleyball? Are you someone who has played before but never coached? Are you someone that has coached in the past? Are you someone that has had a great coach and remembers the positive impact that it has had on your life?  Are you someone who has played or coached in a different sport and wants to develop your transferable skills? Are you only interested in coaching adults? Are you only interested in coaching juniors?

If you said yes to any of the above, then we want you!                                                                    It’s time for you to get that warm feeling of developing others & putting back into our sport!

Possibly leading in 1 to 4 small group coaching from a plan. Although beneficial you do not have to have experience of volleyball, but you must be confident in a group environment.  You will be supported and have a coach a squad manager & safeguarding support with you. In addition, you will be in regular contact with a mentor for guidance and support. You will not be alone. You can do as much or as little as you want to suit your own personal commitments.

As mandatory we expect you to go through a data barring service (DBS) check. If you are not a British national, we reserve the right to carry out similar checks in your home nation. We will ensure, (and support financially) that you have the right first aid certification, mental health training, safeguarding training & coaching qualification. You could be interested in Sport? You could be a parent? You could have some spare time on your hands? You could be looking for some exercise? Are you a current player but never coached and not confident to lead sessions? Are you a retired player who misses volleyball? Are you someone who has played before but never coached? Safeguarding

Probably the most important part of anything we do as clubs. We have an exceptional record over many years and something we take very seriously. Our Safeguarding team picks up on mental health issues, this could be a change in behavior, erratic behavior (but not limited to) juniors showing signs of self-harming. As we return to play post the pandemic, we anticipate the need for safeguarding to be vastly increased.

We are looking for at least four people to join our safeguarding team. We run active (visible) & passive (covert) safeguarding at our sessions. Depending on how we deploy you, you may be checking registrations, challenging behavior’s or simply sat quietly in the corner of the sports hall observing & reporting back later.

As mandatory we expect you to go through a data barring service (DBS) check. If you are not a British national, we reserve the right to carry out similar checks in your home nation. We will ensure, (and support financially) that you have the right first aid certification, mental health training & safeguarding training. As part of your Continuous personal development (CPD). We will expect you to always be pushing towards the next level of qualification. You may have none of these qualifications, but we will help you gain everything you need & the confidence to think in a safeguarding way.

What sort of person are we looking for? You need to be observant. You need to be able to pick up on body language. You need to be approachable. Most importantly you need to be caring but also understand that you could be faced with difficult decisions that could be hard to make. You do not have to be involved with volleyball already. You do not have to be involved with a sport. You just need to realise that by being there you are making a difference. You could be a parent, former player, or just someone with time on their hands.

If you said yes to any of the above, then we want you!                                                                    It’s time for you to get that warm feeling of caring for others & putting back into our sport!

If you are interested, please email with a brief bit about you to:                                                    Christy – Safeguarding officer Bedminstervolleyball@outlook.com
