South West Junior Girls prepare to take to the beach

england-girls Following the Junior Women’s Beach Volleyball National Team trials & Selection camp that were held in May, Yasmin Kaashoek (left) and Anaya Evans (right) have been selected to represent England at the European qualifier event for the Inaugural FIVB World U17 Championships. The qualifier event is due to take place in Matosinhos, Portugal on June 6th -8th with the squad flying out this Thursday (5th June)This year is the first year that the FIVB U17 world championships is taking place, with FIVB having added more age group events to the beach volleyball calendar.

The competition itself is being held in Mexico, but with high numbers of nations registrating from Europe the girls will first need to compete in a European qualifying event. Yasmin (aged 15) and Anaya (aged 15) are representing one of the 16 countries registered, Anaya and Yasmin will be looking to secure a top 6 place in Portugal to ensure qualification to the main draw in Mexico, or to be placed in positions 7 to 11 to secure a place in the pre competition qualification rounds where they can again compete for one of the remaining qualifier spots in the main draw for the U17 World Championships.

Preperations have been going well with a 4 day beach training camp recently held in Croyde, where Anaya commented “We are super excited to be going and hope to do England proud. Having great coaches and support has got us this far and we want to push to the next level – Portugal is our opportunity for this”
