Funding for Wiltshire and Swindon

Dear All NGB Officers covering Wiltshire and Swindon

As we approach the mid-point in August and school Holidays we also are fast approaching the final cut off for confirmed Satellite Club allocation of funding. I’m pleased to say that many of your clubs have received extensive support and funding to help establish well over 100 clubs across the county to date. I have been very appreciative of the support received from many of you and proud of the joint working that has taken place.  Quite a few projects have seen development of brand new Self Sustainable Hub Clubs in areas of need along with the creation of the more common but equally valuable Satellite Club model. We are extremely proud of the level of sustainability built in to the programme locally and the legacy will continue indefinitely with the majority of these clubs.

Our last available opportunity for an NGB or Community Club to get a project into our year 3 plan and approved by Sport England will be by Thursday 17th September!!!!

After this date remaining funding we currently have will not be available. Consultation for year 4 of the programme is still being undertaken and the programme may look quite different with targets possibly being for a different age, gender, or other focus groups which may not tie into local club needs.

Therefore please do actively encourage your local clubs to make contact if they wish to get advice regarding funding and support available as part of the programme. We are more than happy to help identify the feasibility of a particular project and  pull unfamiliar clubs and schools together where appropriate whilst putting a financial package on the table for them if they meet the criteria.

Whilst the vast majority of you have demonstrated clear communication with clubs, we have seen a small but frustrating number of cases where a few governing bodies have not spread the word to all suitable clubs. For some of these there is a strong valid reason but in a few cases unfortunately has been no clear or logical reason given. As a result some clubs have found out by pure chance and word of mouth which both makes us look as if we haven’t tried to communicate this and the Governing Body is made to look like they aren’t supporting their local clubs by passing relevant information on to them.

As well as being used to congratulate and say well done to those clubs who have Clubmark or equivalent, jointly with your guidance we can also use our funding and support as a carrot to lead clubs in the right direction re accreditation and or working more closely with yourselves.

Alternatively if you want to discuss the support available from ourselves and how we have coordinated the programme locally please get in touch with me directly.

Finally a quick email to your clubs that may be suitable could include the following info plus reinforcement of having a limited time to act:

  • Does your club need new young members?
  • Do you want to work with Secondary Schools which are on your Club’s doorstep but don’t know who to contact?
  • Do you want to increase the quantity of work your club currently does with local schools?
  • Do you want support to help get more club coaches qualified?

If the answer is yes to one or all of these then to find out more about how the Satellite Club programme can help contact simon@wiltssport.org or 07717 666939

Alternatively for more info please see the Wiltshire and Swindon Sport website http://www.wiltssport.org/schools/satellite-clubs

I look forward to speaking with you over the next few weeks and am more than happy to speak to any local clubs interested that you identify directly and put me in touch with.

Kind Regards

Simon Woodhouse
