It was a nail biting final to this years event, not the best start for the team going down 0-6 to some excellent serving from North West and a group of very nervous SW girls had to slowly made their way back into the match. As they relaxed it was game on and it was North West turn to faulter towards the end of the first set and the business end of the final third set decider (25-22, 19-25, 15-11).
The two teams had each topped their respective pools and hence had not met during the event, so it was a showdown of the two outstanding teams of the weekend. The girls’ MVPs went to Georgia McGovern of South West and Rhea Hackin of the North West.
Congratulations to the girls who are now U17 Inter Regional Champions for 2019!!!
A special thanks should also go to all the back-ground volunteers who made this possible, the coaching team, the back ground admin team who suffered with all the changes brought on by the last minute switch of venue.
The biggest thanks must go to all the parents who did all the running around supporting the team throughout the weekend and suffered on the balcony watching the tense drama unfolding below on court.
They fetched, carried, drove, transported, managed and kept the team fed, plus provided a winning breezeblock size of home made flapjack that kept everyone going during the weekend. Well done to everyone involved, it was an excellent team Southwest effort.
