Junior Beach Championships Results

The SWVA Junior Beach Championships took place at Weston, in its 5th year the event is going through a revival in the lower age groups, as the older athletes who have been competing on the tour for over four years are now established players on the senior VEBT. Some swjbt players who will be making their England Debut this summer are Anaya Evans, Millie Constable, Will Hartnoll (Academy of Beach Sports) and Sam Allen (LeAF).

Once again in near perfect conditions the event compared to last years rain and hard compact ‘mud’, sand was a dream event.

The spirit of the tournament went to Jurek Jankowski, who while almost being removed from the event by the technical supervisor for calling a time out for his team, took the warning in such good spirits and was seen finally relaxing when he allowed the no coaching rule to settle into his psyche!

Level Two Coaching, don't forget that if you or your club are planning to run or host any volleyball this year, a level two qualification is the minimum required if you wish to qualify for insurance via Volleyball England. - A number of places have already gone, please book yours ASAP.

Level Two Coaching Course

We are looking to run a Level Two Coaching course at the beginning of the 2013/14 indoor season. With the change to the new UKCC qualification, there has not been a level two course for a while, tutors are currently going through the new process and exam structure, this should be completed by mid summer and hence we are looking to be one of the first regions to host a UKCC Level 2 course.

If you are not aware, the Level 2 is the minimal qualification required to run a coaching session and courses do not come around that often.

The course will be held over two weekends, our provisional dates are Sept 21/22 & Oct 19/20.

The course fees will be £420 or £450. Funding is available for coach development, a ‘Funding Opportunities Guide for Coaches’ has been developed by ScUK and is available on the SWVA & VE web sites. Local associations and clubs also give development grants to their coaches and hence it is not uncommon for participants to recover 50% to 60% of this fee either direct or in future paid work.

Sportivate Sitting Volleyball sessions in Plymouth

Starting on Tuesday 6th August, PMVC in conjunction with Active Devon and the Life Centre are hosting the first totally inclusive sitting volleyball course which will be running through the summer holidays with a competition/ Match on 1st September.

This initiative is to commemorate one year on from the success of the Olympics and Paralympics London 2012 and to showcase a sport which gained a lot of interest and publicity. Providing there is sufficient interest and it is sustainable, we aim for this to be the launchpad for regular training sessions throughout the coming season 2013/14 season and hopefully to also be the first formally recognised Sitting Volleyball Club in the SW region.

Due to the rarity of this sort of opportunity, I urge anyone interested in this sport whether as a potential player, coach, teacher, volunteer or someone just looking to do something different, to come and try this exciting and fast paced variation of volleyball.

Please note that this is not exclusive to people in the Plymouth area, we would happily welcome anyone from the SW region who is able to attend.

I am also starting to collate a register of interested parties for the first Sitting Volleyball Awareness workshop in the SW which I would like to happen ASAP, preferably before the End of September. Please contact me if you are interested and once we have sufficient numbers I will then look to agree final details with all interested parties and Volleyball England. (I also intend to have an add-on to this workshop for any VE registered referees who can then be upgraded to officiate Sitting Volleyball games and be eligible to referee SVGP games).

Any Questions at all, please contact me as per the details on the poster below.

If you have been watching the recent coverage of the VEBT from Weston Super Mare then you would have noticed that two of the main sponsors for this event, were Parkwood and Hutton Moor, two companies that provide volleyball venues in our region.

Croyde SW Junior Beach Tour

The 5th annual Croyde South West Junior Beach Tour event was under perfect conditions, with finally an event in Croyde taking place with very little wind.

1043923_10151474329206333_1185755362_n

On a busy weekend of volleyball with England South Training taking place numbers were smaller but its hoped that next year it wont clash with so many things quite as much!

The best part of the event was to see the U12 boys final with amazingly good three touch volleyball, and using all the beach volleyball moves at the correct times.

Terms and conditions received state that the equipment needs to be available all year around and used for development.

An administration fee has already been paid by the SWVA to collect and to import the equipment (e.g. £20 per net), this will be passed on.

If you would like to apply for some or all of the equipment, please apply via the web site, all applications will be assessed and announced at the next SWVA meeting (5th Oct 2013 Weston Super Mare).
