Sitting Volleyball Survey

At the moment, we are not aware of any Sitting Volleyball teams in the South West region (registered or un-registered), ideally we would like to see a South West representative team taking part in the Grand Prix series.

We would also like to know how many people in the region have or are currently looking to introducing Sitting Volleyball into their clubs or local association. If enough people are interested then we would like to arrange for a VE Sitting Volleyball seminar for advice, coaching, equipment, funding options and general help.

If you are involved or are interested in Sitting Volleyball, could you please complete the survey on the Sitting Volleyball Page of the web site or direct via the following link. http://www.swva.org.uk/sitting-volleyball-survey

Thank you

2013 SW Junior Squad Sponsorship

Each year, coaches, team managers and background team volunteers come together to set up and run monthly junior coaching sessions for the youngsters throughout the region. The youngsters all come from different clubs and receive a five hour coaching session from some of our most experienced coaches.

They learn new skills, train within their own age groups and take these new skills and experiences back to their own clubs. It improves the overall standard of the sport in the region and the successful candidates represent the region at the Inter Regional Championships at the end of the season. This is also the stepping stone for other National squads and the UK School Games etc.

SW Girls Training at Burnham

The 2012-13 Exeter Challenge, Torexe VC (add your name here) sponsored SWVA Junior Squads

In the past we have received some funding from Volleyball England, today we must raise our own sponsorship to keep this excellent activity going and affordable for everyone today and in future years. To do this we are looking at team sponsorship and other offers in kind, so far this season we have received sponsorship from the Exeter Challenge and discounted court time from the Torexe Volleyball Club but unfortunately we need more.

Volleyball is a relatively cheap sport (compared to others) and lots of our clubs and events run at a profit. If you have juniors in your area who are benefiting from this then why not add your name to the list of sponsors with a cheque or an offer in kind and help to keep this activity going. Sponsor some court time, Sponsor a training ball (we need to purchase some more lightweight balls) or a new training net, one of our biggest expenses is the Minibus hire to get us to the Inter Regional Tournament.

For more info or an offer of sponsorship, then please contact me, Dave Reece Dave.Reece@Network100.co.uk or call me on 01392 446031.

National Cup Finals, Opportunity to volunteer

I am pleased to be able to give volunteers advanced notice of the opportunity to volunteer at the Volleyball England National Cup Finals (Friday 19th to Sunday 21st April) and Super 8 Play Offs (Friday 26th to Sunday 28th April). As many of you know, these are the flagship events in the indoor volleyball calendar and a fantastic opportunity to get involved with the highest level of domestic volleyball.

Please let me know if you have any questions, otherwise I look forward to receiving your applications. Also your family and friends are very welcome to volunteer with you – each need to complete a separate application form. Volunteers over 14 are allowed to volunteer without a parent / guardian attending too and then those from about 6 or 7 are allowed to volunteer with a responsible adult.

Please note: referees and NTOs will be recruited by a separate process. Best wishes, Ilona Berry National Volunteer Development Officer i.berry@volleyballengland.org

Possible Level 2 Course

Dear All, There is a possibility that Exeter University could run a Level 2 Coaching Course in the Spring. This would attract some funding from Active Devon to help with the cost. Paul Mouland at Exeter University would very much like to know if there is any interest in a Level 2 course before he puts a lot of time into the project. Whilst I realise that without knowing the exatact dates and cost real commitment is impossible, however it would be very helpful to guage the level of initial interest.

If you are interested please will you email Paul Mouland P.D.Mouland@exeter.ac.uk

[Please put Volleyball Level 2 in the subject of the email to help Paul manage any replies.]

Please forward this email to whomsoever you think might be interested.

U15 National Championships

The U15 National Championships offers competition to all affiliated schools and clubs with junior sections. Over the years the U15 National Championships has proven to be one of great sportsmanship and, with many top players already part of the Regional Talent Development training setup, a high standard of junior volleyball is seen year on year at the Finals.

The 2012-13 U15 National Championships will look to build on the success of last years competition. Teams from the 9 regions will compete in a local competition within their respective region. The winners will then progress to the divisional rounds which are set to be played at central venues within each of the 3 main regions (North, Central, South). The winners of the divisional rounds will compete in the National Finals at the National Volleyball Centre in Kettering.

The closing date for entries is 7th January 2013.

Some of the regional hosts have now been selected. Details can be found on the U15 Championships page below. We will update the remaining regions’ details as soon as we have further information. http://volleyballengland.org/competitions/junior_competitions/national_u15_championships Regards, Will Westwood 01509 227721 / w.westwood@volleyballengland.org

Inter Regional Championships Date Confirmed

Volleyball England have now confirmed the date and location of this seasons Inter Regional Championships. 25-27 May at the National Volleyball Centre in Kettering.

Legacy equipment, LeAFAcademy, Bournemouth

Legacy equipment from all three of the volleyball venues at the Olympic and Paralympic Games has been distributed amongst Volleyball England’s membership.

The equipment which forms part of a strong volleyball legacy following the Games will help to support volleyball clubs, programmes and players across England. The kit that was donated from LOCOG included London 2012 post systems, nets, balls, post padding, ball cages and referee stands from Horse Guards Parade, Earls Court and the ExCel Centre.

London 2012 Equipment Legacy

Initially Volleyball England allocated the equipment amongst Development, Talent and Beach Hubs to ensure its benefits are felt across the entire sport. The final distribution was then carefully decided based on Volleyball England’s long term goals, the level of demand and areas where the equipment could make the most impact. One of the recipients of the legacy equipment, Joel Roberts of LeAFAcademy, Bournemouth commented, “Here at LeAF we are very grateful for this kit and will definitely put it to good use! “We have both indoor and indoor beach facilities on site, so the combination of equipment will really assist our training and the talent identification work we have in place.”

Lisa Wainwright, Volleyball England Chief Executive said: “This is a very important part of volleyball’s legacy and highlights the continual work that is being done to build a brighter future for volleyball. “We are extremely pleased to have been allocated this by LOCOG and hope that the equipment branded with the London 2012 logo will help support and inspire volleyball clubs, players and coaches across the country.” Volleyball England distributed the equipment on behalf of British Volleyball which was split amongst the home nations including; British Volleyball Federation, Scottish Volleyball Association, Volleyball Wales and Northern Ireland Volleyball.

The equipment legacy forms part of Volleyball England’s contribution to a wider legacy for the sport following the Games and is one of many projects helping to raise the profile of volleyball in England and get more people playing the sport. Lord Sebastian Coe, LOCOG Chairman recently commented “I am delighted at the number of fantastic initiatives Volleyball England is managing, helping to deliver a real legacy from the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games and harnessing that momentum for the future. A whole range of volleyball opportunities are being created, especially for young people, and I hope this will inspire more people to take up volleyball for life.”
