Hi all,

For most then end of August marks the end of another summer season and the switch back to the indoor game.

We have a new venue for the Girls for their Inter Regional Championships Squad training this year, it will now be held at the Riverside LC in Exeter.

In the last newsletter we had an item for Sport England grants (see web site if you missed it), I understand that £141,000 has been applied for so far, so well done to everyone, hope you are all successful, it will be a big boost to the sport.

If you are playing Super 8's or in the National league Division 1, then you will already be aware of the International Players Transfer fees (or Volleyball Tax for non European players). For those in the lower NL divisions and the SWVA league, you may wish to check it out, details below.

SW Players take to the sand for CEV U18 European Championships

England take to the sand for CEV U18 European Championships

England junior Men and Women teams take on Europe in the CEV U18 beach volleyball European championship, held in Kristiansand, Norway from 21st – 24th August.

For the Women’s side, Anaya Evans (Academy of Beach Sports) and Yasmin Kaashoek (LeAF Academy) both aged 15, return to international competition after their success in the inaugural FIVB U17 world championships held in Mexico in July, where they returned with a fantastic 9th place finish, so will take great confidence heading into the European championships.

For the Men’s side Harry Jones, aged 16 (LeAF Academy) and Ryan Poole, aged 15 (Essex Juniors) are also returning to international competition after competing in the FIVB U19 world championships held in Cyprus in July, where they finished in 47th, after a tough opener losing a close match against Austria in the first round of qualifying.

England Women have been drawn in Pool E which sees them compete in a tough group that includes, Czech republic, France and Belarus.

England Men have an equally tough Pool as their Pool H opponents include hosts Norway, Finland and Switzerland.

For more information and to keep up to date with all the scores, check out the CEV website

International Players Fees

Although the 2012 Olympics were a great success for the sport of Volleyball and showed GB teams competing against the world’s best. One down side is that the rest of the world suddenly noticed that the sport is played in the UK and hence would like to apply their international rules on player transfers and participation to the UK. Their reason, they are already enforced in Africa, so why not the UK as well.

The fees revolve around any overseas player who has been previously registered in another Federation (outside of Europe). The fee is payable yearly and will go to the federations development fund (plus a small admin fee to VE for collecting the fees). On top of this, I believe there may well be a federation (CEV) fee but this is currently unknown and may well conflict with EU rules.

At the moment the above only applies to the Super 8’s and NL Division 1, but I understand that this is likely to be expanded to include Divisions 2 & 3 and Regional Leagues. The fee is basically reduced 50% per division and as the SW League could be defined as a fifth division, our non CEV players who have previously been registered elsewhere could be looking at a €55 fee per year.

If the proposed CEV fee is also introduced for any European player (who has previously been registered in another country) then things will get quite complicated on the administration front.
