Update on the New Rules

FIVB Postpones the Introduction of the Overhand Service Reception Rule

The FIVB Board of Administration has announced that it has postponed the implementation of Rule 9.2.4, the Overhand Service Reception Rule, pending further testing in official competitions.  The initial impact of the rule has not been as successful as expected and further consideration is required.

Volleyball England notes that as this rule has been removed from the current edition of the Rules of Game it will not be implemented in Volleyball England competition.

All other changes in the Rules of Game commissioned at the 33rd World Congress in Anaheim in 2012 are applicable as from 1st September 2013.

Referees, coaches, players, clubs and associations should be aware that an amended Rules of Game text can be found on the FIVB website at http://www.fivb.org/en/Refereeing-Rules/RulesOfTheGame_VB.asp.

In addition the Refereeing Guidelines have been updated to reflect the new rules and can be found at http://www.fivb.org/en/Refereeing-Rules/Guidelines.asp

If you have any queries regarding the current Rules of Game you should contact the Volleyball England Referee Commission for advice.

As we have a large stock of Rule and scorers handbooks a reprint has been delayed, an addendum will be produced for both handbooks and available as a PDF on the VE website.
