Hi all,

More news from around the region plus a few items of interest.

SW Vets Tournament Entry Form

Entries are now open for the 2015 SW Veterans Tournament

The event will take place on Sunday 29th November 2015 at the Riverside Leisure Centre in Exeter. Please complete the entry form SW Vets Entry 2015

Closing date for entries is 20th October 2015, however the event is limited to 12 teams, so as usual places will be allocated to those who enter quickest!

Although the name of the event is the SW Vet’s Tournament, it’s more than that, with two thirds of the entries being from mixed teams. The competition uses a handicap system based not just on age but also with additional points for each female on court at the start of the match, encouraging a true mixed tournament. Teams then have to either hold on to their point’s advantage or catch the other team up within the allotted match period of seventeen minutes.

It’s a format that produces an excellent match environment and very entertaining volleyball for players and spectators alike and has produced a different event winner each year.

Can you design a new kit for the SW U17 Squad?

Our SWVA U17 squad kit has come to the end of its life (after about ten years of use) can you design a new cutting edge looking for the team?

Guidelines:

  • SWVA squads tend to play in blue & white kit but it could be different.
  • In addition to the shirt numbers, it must also include our SWVA logo(s) (logo and font details at: https://www.swva.org.uk/swva-logo ) and leave space for existing and future shirt sponsorship.
  • Need to include two Libero designs (reverse image)
  • We will give a prize to the winning designer.
  • All designs will be voted on by the Exec and the SW squad members.
  • Timescale: We need to use the new kit in April 2016.

SWVA U17 Shirt Sponsorship

Providing the required kit for our SW Squads to compete in development events and the end of season Inter Regional Championships cost £500 per team, hence we are looking for some new sponsors to help with the new kit cost. Can you or your company help, once purchased your name will appear in all photos and team reports for the life of the shirt and hence represents good value.

In exchange you can use the team photos and the latest team reports in your company publications. Your company name and logo will be added to our list of sponsors and displayed on our web site pages (bottom left) and forwarded to all members in our SW Newsletter. A minimum of 40,000 page views per year for the life of the shirt.

Offer of sponsorship or for your kit design, please contact Dave Reece (SWVA Chairman)Dave.Reece@Network100.co.uk

Volleyball England Competitions Review – have your say!

If you are involved or take part in Volleyball England run events, then VE would like to hear from you – see below…

Most of our members do not take part in VE events but our SW Junior program is part of the VE run Inter Regional Championship (IRC) program. If you have junior players, daughters, son’s, current, past or future players, we would like to suggest that you indicate support for the IRC program in the Junior survey below (SWVA Exec committee).

Volleyball England Logo

On 20th April 2015, we launched a full review of all Volleyball Competitions and Major Events to ensure that we are actively working towards the creation of ‘an integrated top to bottom event structure which contains a portfolio of high quality domestic and international events’ as outlined within ‘Strategy 2024’.

The views of Volleyball England members are critical to the success of this review. This stakeholder survey is part of a wide ranging consultation process to capture the views of clubs, regional associations, Volleyball England commissions and the wider membership.

We are seeking your inputs to improve existing competitions and to enable us to consider any new competitions or competition structures that may be required to support the development of Volleyball.

There are 4 separate surveys. Each survey has a specific focus – please complete those that are most relevant to you, or your club or association.
Your help in completing this survey is greatly appreciated as it will help ensure that we are able to improve existing competitions and develop new competition concepts/structures to increase participation, enhance performance and grow the sport.

The survey opens on 21st September and will close at 12 noon on 9th October.

If you have any questions regarding this review, please contactcompsreview@volleyballengland.org.

Kind regards,
Rob Cook
International Events and Competitions Director
Volleyball England

View from a volunteer

View from a volunteer

It’s one thing approaching a new event as a relatively experienced event volunteer, but quite another experience when it’s with a National Governing Body you’ve had no prior contact with. So I approached the London Legacy Volleyball  Cup organisation  with a good degree of curiosity and just a little uncertainty.

Without question, the blend of the Copper Box Arena in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and the conspicuously high standard competition from both home and abroad teams had certainly caught my eye, as did the variety and quality of volunteer roles on offer.  So, straight away, this looked like an attractive opportunity and well worth applying for.  Subsequently, I was delighted to be offered the role of Client / Spectator Services Team Assistant Manager……..

Young Coaches/Officials Programme

Young Coaches/Officials Programme Now Open For Applications!

In partnership with Youth Sport Trust, Volleyball England are once again opening up a fantastic opportunity for young coaches and young officials aged 15-19 to be part of an exciting development programme! The applications are now open and the full programme prospectus can be found here.

Building on the success of the 2014-15 programme, the starting event will be a unique 4 day residential camp, based at Loughborough University, which will bring together 350 of the country’s most talented young sports people, to take part in a number of practical based workshops. The camp will test and challenge the attendees in an intense multi-sport environment and prepare them for the programme that is to follow.

Following on from the camp, the coaches and officials will be exposed to further development opportunities through a series of workshops courses and events! Here is a tiny snippet of what we did last year:
