August marked the first full year of the new Sport England funded Whole Sport Plan for volleyball. This anniversary coincided with a substantial milestone for our sport in England – over £300,000 of new external funds brought into the sport!
In the 12 months up to 26 August 2014, £329,544 of external grant funding was secured for Volleyball England affiliated organisations and national programmes due to the tremendous work of our volunteer network, Volleyball Relationship Managers and National Office staff. These funds were secured from sources and programmes such as Sportivate, Sport England Small Grants, Inspired Facilities and Capital Grants.
The success rate of grant applications to the Sport England Small Grants programmes from Volleyball England staff is currently running at an astonishing 100% – almost double the 55% average success rate of grant applications to Sport England across all bids by all sports. It is testament to the dedication of Volleyball Relationship Managers and National Office staff in not only working closely with clubs, colleges and other volleyball organisations on the bid documents but also their successful collaboration with funding bodies and expert knowledge of the required processes.
Beyond the £329,000 already secured, decisions on more than £200,000 in grant applications are due in the next few months. In addition, the Volleyball England Talent team have secured over £500,000 financial support for our talented young players in the Junior and Senior Academies via theAdvanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence(AASE) and Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme (TASS) programmes.
