Commonwealth Youth Games – Volleyball Wales

Some of you may be aware that we had an opportunity to send 2 male and 2 female Junior players to the Commonwealth Youth Games in Trinidad & Tobago in August 2023.
A lot of work has been going on in the background for the past 6+ months to try and make this happen as a start to our youth development programme moving forward at the Beach Centre.

Many meetings with Sport Wales & Commonwealth committee, putting programmes and plans together. Sorting out dates, times, staff is just part of what has been going on, to try and make this happen.

However, unfortunately “THIS TIME” we were unsuccessful in our bid (Please see response from Sport Wales below), but I will say that we have learned a lot about the application process, requirements and needs to make this happen in the future.
And it is our intention to make this happen moving forward, not only for the junior but for all players wanting to represent Wales in High End events in the world of Beach Volleyball.

Yours

SPORT WALES

I was informed late last night of the outcome of our expressions of interest in competing in the team sports at Trinidad & Tabago 2023 Commonwealth Youth Games. Unfortunately, we were unsuccessful in our applications for a slot in the Men’s and Women’s Beach Volleyball competitions.

There was a very high amount of interest in taking part with 40 applications from 6 CGF regions expressing an interest in the 12 slots available in the men’s competition and 37 applications for the 12 slots in the women’s competition. In making their decision the CGF carried out detailed consultation with FIVB taking into consideration the published criteria:

• Host nation representation
• Past national/territorial results at recent events
• Depth of field and strength of competition
• Regional representation
• Any other factor(s) considered relevant by FIVB and CGF, including IF Commonwealth development focus
