Wessex resist fightback to claim National Cup
Wessex LeAF reigned supreme in the the U18 women finals after a fierce four-set battle with Beach Academy Waves on Sunday afternoon in the National Volleyball Centre, Kettering.
Wessex LeAF scored the first point of the match and gained an early lead of 5-3 but Beach Academy Waves were fighting hard to stay involved and the score was soon five-all. Wessex led by the first technical time out 8-5 and they continued to dominate through the set to the second technical time out with a score of 16-11, and ultimately the set 25-19.
The second set again saw both teams at level pegging and at the first technical time out, the score was 8-7 to Beach Academy Waves. It was Beach Academy Waves who then retained the lead and they went into the second technical time out 16-11 ahead. They squared the game up with a set win of 25-16.
Beach Academy Waves gained the early lead in the third set racking up a score of 4-1 and they held on to the lead going into the first technical time 8-5. Both team played fiercely but it was Wessex who claimed the lead at the second technical time out with a one point advantage. Two set point for Wessex were saved by Beach Academy Waves, but it was Wessex who claimed the set and took back the lead with a score of 25-19, (2-1).
